The padded coif, just like the gugel, is a classic piece of medieval clothing. Primarily used for protection beneath helmets, chainmail and other plate armour. The gambeson padding offers comfort and warmth. The Leopold Coif has a tie to fasten the cap in place below the chin and prevent unwanted movement.
